Your mini-expedition begins at the Tag-A-Long office in Moab at 7:15 a.m.* where we board four-wheel drive vehicles for a drive into Canyonlands National Park. Our route takes us north of town to the Gemini Bridges Trailhead. From there, we start to ascend the side of a cliff with views of Arches National Park in the distance overlooking the Moab Valley. Eventually, we make it to the Gemini Bridges, a pair of gigantic rock arches. Here we will stop and take a walk to view these amazing formations. Then it’s on and up to the top of the Island in the Sky mesa.
After passing the fee booth in Canyonlands National Park, we will go to Mesa Arch for a short 30 minute round trip hike. From Mesa Arch you can see Washerwoman Arch and the iconic White Rim Trail. Then we make our way over to Dead Horse Point state park for the best view of the Colorado River on the Island in the Sky mesa! We exit the mesa top via another four-wheel drive road where our route takes us under a giant fallen boulder!
The second half of the day’s adventure finds you splashing along on the mighty Colorado River. You’ll enjoy some of the most enchanting scenery to be found anywhere in the American West while you float along, swim or hit playful class I-II rapids. Throughout the day, you’ll learn about native wildlife, the cultural and natural history of the canyonlands region, and the fascinating geologic story of this amazing country – and you’ll have a ball all the while! You are back in Moab by around 4:30.*
