Utah River and Wilderness Expeditions since 1964... come Tag-A-Long with us!
Looking for a TRUE Moab 4-wheeling and Colorado River adventure? This trip combines a scenic calm-water river ride into Canyonlands National Park on the Colorado River with the iconic roller coaster slickrock 4-wheeling Moab is known for. It’s the best of both worlds and an experience that is not to be missed if you want to say you have “done it all” in Moab!
Folks with very little time but any fitness level can join this expedition. This trip is for anyone who wants to see the interior of Canyonlands National Park from the perspective of the Colorado River. It is scenic, relaxing first half of a day that gives memories for a lifetime. The second half you will experience the roller-coaster ride of Slickrock 4-wheeling. The 4×4 rigs are air conditioned and the ride is moderate. Due to the nature of this tour, we do not recommend it for children under the age of 6 or people with heart conditions, anxiety, or vertigo.
There are no rapids on the river portion of this day trip. Jet boats are strong aluminum boats holding from 10 to 28 guests. They skim along the calm water (only) portions of the Colorado River at an average cruising speed of 20 miles per hour and stop frequently to drift gently along the current as your guide talks. The area we visit along the Colorado River toward Canyonlands is accessible only by river. The rim towers 1500 feet above.
For the boat portion, we embark by boat at the “Potash” boat ramp. High, red, sandstone canyon walls form the scenic landscape where watchful eyes can occasionally spot eagles, bighorn sheep, and deer. Frequent stops allow opportunities for photography. Binoculars are also fun to have. Enjoy a walk into the famed Grotto inside Canyonlands because we are the only outfitter in Moab who can actually take you there. And, if the river level permits, we take a short hike to a petrified forest near the river view of Dead Horse Point. Here the canyon walls rise a towering 1500 feet! The riparian zone and Jurassic rock dominate the landscape. Mid-day we rendezvous for lunch and the second part of your day trip.
After lunch we drive through to the other end of Moab and soon find ourselves on the Sand Flats road. Here we turn off onto the Hells Revenge trail. Feel your heart race as we scale tall fins of rock, seemingly endlessly climbing up into the sky before finally peaking to astonishing 360° views. Then the hair-raising descent back down the other side! Ready to do it again? Great! We travel over more fins, through gullies, and on cliff edges guaranteed to give you a thrill! Don’t forget your cameras – the photos are amazing.
About half way through we reach the edge of the cliff overlooking the Colorado River. Arches National Park is just on the other side of the river. Turn around and you can see the La Sal Mountains right behind you. Now, you are truly on top of the world!
Travelers wanting supreme Canyonlands scenery. Any age visitor looking for a thrill of a real Slickrock Jeep ride in Moab! Due to the nature of this tour, we do not recommend it for children under the age of 6 or people with heart conditions, anxiety, or vertigo.
