Adventure Description

If you want a Colorado River rafting experience but don’t have a lot of time, then this trip is the one for you. In the Cataract Canyon Blast, we’ll get you down through Grand Canyon style rapids in only 2 days. This is the rafting adventure that won’t eat up all your vacation and yet will leave you feeling as if you have escaped into the peace and serenity only Canyonlands National Park can give you.

Adventure Level

The Colorado river is a wild and natural river above Lake Powell. Snow melt greatly impacts the level, speed and temperature of the water. Cataract Canyon can be the ultimate white water rafting adventure or it can be a great family camping vacation depending on the time of year you choose.

April to mid-May Rapids III-IV Chilly water. Rapids are good.
Mid-May to Mid-June Rapids III-V Whoa Nelly! Leave young kids at home!
Mid-June to October Rapids III-IV Warm waters, everybody come! Rapids are good.

Busy schedules make everyone desire to do more in less time. There is no reason to sacrifice big adventure and backcountry travel because you have to squeeze a lot of living into a short period. The Cataract Canyon Blast is built for people with fast-paced lives who need to get away from it all. Raft these rapids in only two days, but we promise it will feel like two weeks! You’ll enjoy the same 100 miles of the Colorado River including all 28 class III-V white water rapids as you would on longer Colorado River rafting adventures. New technology allows our powerful rafts to cover flat water with the speed of a motorboat and yet run the rapids with the surity and excitement of a smaller raft. When we reach Lake Powell after the last of the rapids, relax as we cruise across the cool blue waters in this red rock wilderness. Our unique trip isn’t for everybody, but you will know if it has your name on it. The ultimate backcountry weekend getaway. It’s a blast!

Day 1 – Lunch & Dinner
Your adventure begins at the Adrift Adventures office at 7:30 a.m. After a short, scenic ride to the Potash Boat Ramp downstream of Moab and a brief orientation, we launch! At noon, stop for lunch at a delightful spot along the river where guides show off their culinary skills. Late afternoon, stop to set up a picturesque campsite for the night. Guides provide instruction to ‘pup’ tents, if you have rented from Tag-A-Long, making it quick and easy so you can spend your time relaxing and having fun with your companions. After sunset, enjoy the clear southwestern skies and see glittering stars!

Day 2 – Breakfast & Lunch
After breakfast we continue our rafting adventure down the Colorado River. Before hitting the white water rapids, your guide will give you a thorough white water orientation and let you know what to expect. Then off you go! The steepest descent of the Colorado River is encountered with these rapids in Canyonlands National Park. The raft hits some of its most well known and respected rapids like “Satan’s Gut” and “Little Niagara” in the famous Big Drops. The raft trip ends with a relaxing cruise across Lake Powell, a stunning red rock and blue green water wonderland. At the marina, (with advance reservations) choose to board the scenic air flight back to Moab. The flight is piloted up the Colorado River above the rapids just run and over Canyonlands National Park before landing at the Canyonlands Airfield in Moab.
